Baseball in Oklahoma City started as early as 1904 when the team was called the Oklahoma City Metropolitans (Mets). Over the next several years they played as the Mets, Indians, Boosters, and Senators before finally becoming the Indians in 1918. The team would continue to be called the Indians until 1957. After a brief period without a minor league team, Oklahoma City baseball came back with a new team known as the 89ers in 1962. A contest had been held to select the new name for the team, and 38 people suggested the name 89ers (after the [[land run of 1889]]). The team would be called the 89ers until 1998 when the team was renamed the RedHawks, which remained the name of the team until 2015 when they became the Dodgers. It was during the RedHawks era that they moved into the new stadium, the [[Bricktown Ballpark]].
