Guy Elliot Blackwelder (1976-1944) came to OK as a young man from Kansas shortly after the land run of 1889. He was a member of the first graduating high school class in Oklahoma City in 1895, where he played on the football team. As an adult was involved in real estate as an early OKC homebuilder. He would also serve two terms as commissioner of public works. Blackwelder died in a car wreck in 1944. [[Blackwelder Avenue]] was named for him.
