The eighth mayor of Oklahoma City, James P. Allen was born in August of 1848 to a family of wealthy planters. Originally from Attala, Mississippi, he first came to Oklahoma in 1895. By that time he had already served as a state senator and as chancellor in the state of Mississippi. An attorney by trade, Allen also served as a probate judge after his two years as mayor. He died in 1922 and is buried in Fairlawn Cemetery.
